Beyond Materialistic Life Poem by Alexie Whitman

Beyond Materialistic Life

Went on a long drive with my dad

Kept on begging him to buy me something Though I really didn't need anything Because things in abundance I already had I was really tired of my old phone
And wanted something about which I could
boast
I asked him to buy me an expensive phone
He smiled and agreed in a polite tone
On the way saw a family living on a trail
Their extreme conditions made me wonder again
All the seven kids were wearing worn out rags
Our car drove past them and I looked back
Dad asked me the reason of my dull look
I begged him to stop the car
I came out and examined them from a distance which wasn't very far
Saw the kids playing and enjoying
themselves
Made me confused so I questioned myself "To be glad do I really need to flaunt? "
And the answer came out really prompt Because the joy on their faces was priceless
Which I would have never achieved by flaunting my glittery dress
Those poor kids didn't have anything except themselves
But that was enough for them to be optimists
To achieve happiness you don't need materialistic things
Value the people, memories, moments, hugs, smiles
And happiness is what they'll bring!
