You can gush and emote
gripe and moan
weep and groan
slash your wrists
with fourteen razorblades
and it still ain't poetry
do NOT pick up a book
or read the best stuff written
fly by the seat of your soiled britches
and let it all hang out
if a dozen monkeys
typing gibberish
is poetry
or verse
whatever
count me out
that ain't poetry
by any stretch
of the imagination
grow up
poetasters
and wannabes
OK call a poem by any other name, and you be the critic who can't write one. You will still argue the point 'till dooms day on Earth. Where, if any, is there some purpose to your writing for finding a solution for peace other than war? Your poem's anatomy is but an aggressive rhetoric of empty feelings for peace, and caring less words. L.Levy
an intelligent satire on poetasters...It reminds me of reading An epistle to Dr. Arbuthnot by Pope...where he is really sick of self acclaimed poets...who bother him for his opinion of their poetry I liked reading this one for we [ excluding you, of course] sometimes are carried away with our personal judgment and do not see through the lacuna of writing.... **Abha**
I happened to click on this one of yours just now. It bounces off my 'I've got News For You' I wrote recently. If I am reading yours as you intended it, I think both have the same essence. Tom
I don't usually go for 'message' pieces as I find them artless (simply because the reader cannot reach an alternative understanding) . But I like the form of this and the piss-take of rhyming 'moan' with 'groan' is a great touch. I don't agree with the comment below. Art should not be used as some sort of therapy, if people want to have a whine, I feel they should do so by keeping a diary. Whilst the writer's experience serves as material it should never be used for soliciting sympathy or empathy. It is not only annoying it dumbs down the art form in general. That said I must now show my hypocracy by saying I agree with the sentiment of this piece as well as the manner that it is posed.
