An Eternity To Get To Know You Poem by Milton Johanides

An Eternity To Get To Know You

Knowing you has been fun
I hope you don´t think that´s dumb
You didn´t hesitate to
Let me gravitate to
You and your love
On that first date, heavens above,
Couldn't believe the hand you dealt
When you told me how you felt.

The second time I saw you
I confessed, "I adore you"
When you surprised me by a shout
That your life´s not worked out.
You weren´t making any sense
So now I jump to your defence
Want to know what´s wrong
Why you sing that bluesy song
The reason behind those quirky gestures
All your crazy misadventures
Why you flick your hair that way
Never follow up what you say
Why you think the world´s so sad?
Is it me that makes you mad
Or some past demonic fad?

It´s okay I can wait
I´ll empty out your well of hate.
Getting to know you is all that matters
Love can mend a life in tatters
Stop you crying in the night
Change those wrongs, make them right.
Sure it´s going to take a while
To find the key that turns your smile
Doesn't matter, we have forever
All that matters is we´re together.
We have an eternity, and that´s fine,
To get to know you, love of mine.
