An Affectation Poem by Armadillo Poet

An Affectation

I'm not so sure
There's much a difference
In the primal causes
Between bravery and cowardice.

The heart floods
Whether running fearfully
Away from, or joyfully towards
A bear.

But there is better chemistry
Living through enjoying horrors.

Meaning that
Your last minutes shouldn't
Be huddled and praying
On a bathroom floor;

They should be headstrong:
Facing the cyclones fearlessly,
Your eyes daring the sky
To compress and smite…

Because after all
It's we who make
The heavens balk.

But it is truly hard
To find one brave like that.

So when she steps out for a cigarette,
I just wonder:
How will smoke taste on her,
During a hurricane?
