A Welcome For My Guests Poem by Lora Colon

A Welcome For My Guests

Rating: 5.0

My head is like a grand hotel,
The guests arrive, one by one,
Some with great accomplishments,
Others are allowed just for fun

They come with gifts of poetry,
Some regale me with their song;
They're all gifted and interesting,
To evict them would just be wrong

I graciously accept their gifts,
In return, I give them a home;
And every now and then I embark
On the writing of another poem

If not for them, where would I be?
There'd be no reason or rhyme;
There'd be no music within these walls,
Ideas, just drifting through time

Was it the gypsy who wandered in
That caused this urge to roam?
But, oh, how he commands that violin!
How could I send him home?

I admire you all and bid you stay,
A group so witty and cunning;
A special thanks to the taxi driver
That keeps the meter running!

And so, my guests, I make a toast:
A finer group I've never met;
You're welcome to stay as long as you like,
Or until I grow old and forget

Guess what Lora? Even as I begin to read your poem I was made to feel welcome. With a gracious heart and a lovely character we can each invite others into our homes which literally is our hearts. Welcome guests!

I love the deep message within this poem of how we should all value friendship, and learn from others. You are a modern day Ella Wheeler Wilcox.

Poetry is a grand hotel of guests. Checking in and checking out. Each has a voice crying to be heard, and yours speaks louder than a lot of them. But not so loud as to be an thorn. It's more like a rose. Nice writing Lora!

Or Until You Grow Old And Forget? Why bar your old mind's door... to your friends, to your guests, even though your mind's at rest. They'll love YOU forever more, even though you can't keep score. In your mind they'll congregate, with rhyme, song, and all things great.... which you loved when lucid you WERE. Welcome us now. Please don't you demur.
