A Poet's Words Poem by Akachukwu Lekwauwa

A Poet's Words

Rating: 5.0

you saw a sheep in the field,
she was grazing and
you loved the sight,
you were told she is a herbivore,
you smiled sheepishly.

you saw a leopard in the woods
as it hunted down an antelope
poor creature! you empathized..
but you admired the guise on display;
you were told 'that's a carnivore'
brave! you grinned.

in the subtlety of your might
you approached and then
enveloped everything on sight;
omnivore! you proclaimed yourself,
and how ominous you are.

but me you see on poemhunter,
artfully munching on poems,
and now contempt awakes;
you see that I'm a poemivore
and now you have dusted your encyclopedia,
why?

'what? ' you ask
'why? ' I answer
are you suddenly asking questions?
why?
herbivorous are in the field
carnivorous are in the woods
poemivorous are on poemhunter;
everyone of us in our nature,
are you tickled but still no giggle?

woebegone is the man,
who will measure,
the egg's age with the hen;
who will measure,
Einstein's ingenuity with an autopsy;
who will measure,
a poet's words with a dictionary.
