A poem with an acrostic as an ending
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I thought in contemplation of the world and its triumphs
Without dwelling on all its travails
That along with the scent of the morning dew
There is something endearing about love and money
To your average woman like me;

But not to be outdone in this race to get to the pot of gold
Buried inside one's soul
Man and I mean one man has said
That despite the undeniable fact that a woman's face is her fortune
And her naturally sensuous body is her virtue
An eligible woman's claim to beauty is the size of her fortune;

Sriram and let it never be said of him that
He did not doff his hat and say, Good Day, Ma'am
To friends and neighbours he runs into,
Can be a tough customer
And does have a way with words, both kind and harsh;

Fortune, Goddess of Good Fortune, must shower her bounty on me
For I am a penniless bounty hunter
Who searches nigh and high for a giving soul
And then I would share a fraction of my bounty
With the plenty of starving people and children in the world;

I quote from T.S. Eliot's poem, The Naming of Cats,
For cats love pats
And dogs adore treats
And it goes this way,
"When you notice a cat in profound meditation
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name;

Blimey! Should I do the shimmy
For my name adorns every endeavour of mine and
Charming are my endeavours
Artistic are my thoughts
Thoughtfully have I written and I am Gayathri B. Seetharam.

1. A friend of my in-laws, Indu Aunty, who critiqued a few of my poems and said that they are cute but I must write more highbrow and intense material and suggested that I read Elizabeth Bishop, T.S. Eliot and Yeats for she was an English professor. Since I am trained in science and engineering, a Bachelor's degree and dual Master's degrees, I thanked her and said that study never hurt anyone and a little bit of study goes a long way in educating people and cats and dogs.

Am I the first one who asks you: Where is that Acrostic As An Ending? I cannot find that. You have created a delightful poem, so enjoyable, a true pleasure for reading. I have a sister-in-law who is an engineer too, but she does not write poetry. Thank you so much for sharing this enchanting poem.
