A Part Of Me Poem by John Yaws

A Part Of Me

I'd never met a girl like you,
Nor ever wanted to.
No one had ever touched me
In the special way you do.

I'd never been a gambler
I liked to have control...
But over my emotions
You have a strangle hold.

The moment that I saw you-
this trouble came my way...
A longing for your presence
Had settled in to stay.

I've heard of perfect romance
Of candlelight and wine
For polished city people
I guess that's all just fine.

I was a Texas cowboy
And you a dance hall queen
Both of us were born and bred
To tight blue denim jeans.

To love them and to leave them
Was my philosophy-
But something changed within my heart
It's different now you see?

I'm still a footloose drifter-
A mover, this is true...
But there's a part of me, my dear
That's always there with you.
