A New Year Of Life Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

A New Year Of Life

Rating: 5.0

Dawn upon nights alighted,
evening upon mornings descended,
weeks after days, years after months,
waned away the moments of life;
and little did we know how memories
gathered its treasures for delight.
Mothers getting older,
children getting younger,
youth falling in and out of love,
marriage bells ringing in the churches,
babies getting baptized…
one life comes as other goes;
family building new homes
friends finding it hard to hang on;
yet recollections dwindle
and so does life;
and all that is left to look upon is-
- did one get a good span of life?
did he live long, did she love enough?
O' the years we count is just
a measurement of our time on earth
no matter how much we laughed or cried;
time and years are still the shepherds of life
magnificence comes in being thankful for being alive…

I love this poem. I have voted it a ten. You live in India, but your name seems Portuguese. Do you have any Portuguese or Brazilian ancestors?
