A Kaleidoscopic Self-Portrait Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

A Kaleidoscopic Self-Portrait

Aspirations also keep rolling along
in those little eyes that keep viewing
various colors and patterns
that change so quickly and continually
in a kaleidescope
making it all look so intersting and enjoyable
that man himself imagines and feels inspired
by it's creativity and it's reflections.
And as man keeps walking
thro the avenues of time,
man works hard to make his own life beautiful
with numerous pieces of success and glory
that he gathers as he ventures out and strives.
And as realities keep repeating many chances
in many hues and dimensions,
somewhere in the clutches of hopes,
innocence and truth gets so entwined
that it is mistaken for self-centeredness.
But man never gives up
what he has to achieve
when it becomes a duty so indispensable;
that he keeps racing vehemently
in his chariot of grit
to do what has to be done
and never leaves it half-done or undone;
and he never chooses to reveal or display
or disclose the sincerity and dedication
he holds to his tasks and adventures.
And as all men are not born as kings
and all kings are not born with wings,
each one has his own blessings and burdens
to carry and unload,
each one has his own tasks to complete
and loads of promises to fulfill.
And though time always keeps offering
more and more opportunities to every man
to do what is dignified
and also the courage he needs to do it,
rivals keep spewing colors of hatred
enemies keep blocking his momentum;
thus oscillating the strength and velocity
which is so essential and pertinent
to make any historic achievement
so as to delight those who are appreciative
so as to defeat those who are unthankful.
Life itself is one huge screen
where man works to display a self-portrait
of his best accomplishments;
and like those glass bits
which re-arrange themselves
in a kaleidoscope
to display their own
wonder and splendor,
man also always yearns
to exhibit his own magnificence
before he has to finally close his own eyes
and see no more the triumph
in the kaleidescope of his own attainment.
