A Farewell Song Poem by East Sea Fairy Xing Yi

A Farewell Song

Rating: 4.0

By Yan Shu Translated by East-sea Fairy

Over was the farewell song,
the farewell dinner at Changting was done.
With an attachment strong,
she turned back and gazed though aboard a boat she has gone,
to see him mounting his steed that seemingly neighs his calls of a billion.
Floated down the stream the oar,
and faded slowly away from a whole to none.
Nothing left behind except the parting heart-sore
That ceaselessly grew in his core.

Upstairs he stepped, up to the painting floor,
a storey higher, to a greater height,
hoping to see the boat drifting away once more,
However, nothing but a ray of the setting sun bright
was glowing at the skyline. Heartbroken quite,
for nowhere could he see the oar.
Unable to fight it,
he couldn't help pouring out to the world, therefore,
his endless yearning beyond cure.

This poem spoke to me, loved the goodbye scene and thought. 'he couldn't help pouring out to the world, therefore, his endless yearning beyond cure' - these last two lines are particularly beautiful!
