Michael Silver Poems

I hate you
I wish to tear you away from me
This tumor that clings to my chest
The thing that makes me ache
...

When I look up at the sky on a stormy night
I do not see stars
Yet I know they are there
They remind me that the night is not so dark
...

You were very stupid
To leave all your hopes with cupid
Love has never really been your game
It’s always left you blind, broke, and lame
...

Where is my master, my dear master
Where is my Shepard, whom I call
Where is my father, who once comforted me
Who made my steps righteous
...

I have gained an obsession with hell
Since I was caught in your scarlet spell
An eternity in your fire
Is less hurtful than going higher
...

I once dreamed of a woman
Her beauty radiant
Her voice to me was like breath
And I hungered for her approval
...

Good morning lovely
I hope that you're well
I know you feel lonely
But when you smile I can't tell
...

Duties
I was given these at birth
I did not question them
They came easily to me
...

Why a kiss
Why did we choose the simple touching of flesh
Why is it we chose to risk some sickly infection to show our affection
Why is it we chose to pucker our lips like a child as it feeds on the breast
...

Hugs and kisses for everyone
Then I walk away like a prodigal son
Left to wander the rest of my days
As we go our different ways
...

Saw a young man cry
Thought I’d ask him why
Said he saw his old man die
Told him that he had to say goodbye
...

My enemy is intent to throw me down
But I’ll always come right off the ground
He’s always on the prowl, looking for a fight
But he better watch out when day turns to night
...

Blessed be a child of God
Who upon birth looked wide eyed
Who looked at his creation
And are humbled and amazed
...

I said I liked you
You said you liked me too
I said I loved you
You said you loved me more
...

Death
Man kinds constant companion
You have entered into my life again
You have mercilessly taken another part of me
...

16.

O Sun, how gloriously bright you are
Bringer of life and light
How you caress the Earth with your gentle gifts
How you and your lover circle around each other in eternal dance
...

Come home my son
Do you not hear the weeping of your mother
Do you not hear her pain
Do you not share her fear that you will never come home
...

I once talked to a religious man
He preached of peace
And the good will of all
He spoke of a loving god
...

I was wandering through the Earth one day
When I came upon your eyes
In pools of green I drifted
Speckled with golden stars
...

Like small embers they glowed
Illuminating what little light they had
Yet they promised to set the world ablaze
Then a murderous tempest blew
...

Forsaking My Love

I hate you
I wish to tear you away from me
This tumor that clings to my chest
The thing that makes me ache
That haunts my dreams
And tears at my desires
You have brought me only pain
My untamed heart
That beast that gnaws at my soul
That pitifully whines
Bringing my mind into unwanted pain
Yet how can I blame you
How can I chastise you when I listen intently to your pleas
Why should I punish you for what my eyes feed upon
How can I blame my eyes for falling upon her
She who brings light to the eternal darkness of my soul
She whose eyes bring me to subjection
Whose smile leaves me in awe
How can I blame you when my ears are met with her laughter
How they submerge into her song
How they quiver at her voice
Why should I punish you for inclining my soul
Tempting it with the one sense that has been forsaken by her
How could I look over the thought of the brushing of lips
The touching of hands
The binding of the soul, mind, and body
O you wretched heart
What am I to do with this constant companion
How could I tear you away
When she is the cause of my agony
Or rather
It is the lack of her which brings me sorrow
It is the need for her that leaves my heart in pain
Yet she is not mine
She was never mine
She will never be mine
O my poor heart
How can I make you see reason
When all you do is show me the truth
