Worship Service Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Worship Service

Let me worship you with words.
Let me raise a temple to you in poetry.
Let me sing to you hymns of my own composition.
Let me find joy in seeking you.

Let me make you into something you're not:
A god
A saint
An Adonis
Destined to die for jealousy.

Let me create a mythology around you
And then become your priestess
Bound by ritual
Purified by sacrifice
Dedicated to the keeping of your flame.

In this is your immortality.
In this will be my fame.
If I cannot have you in life,
Let me have you in death.
