Words Of Courage - For Victims Of Brussels Attacks Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Words Of Courage - For Victims Of Brussels Attacks

Light a candle in my name
silently whisper a prayer
place a flower on my grave
and wipe away your tears;
inhale deeply as you remember me
look around every corner
find the places we stood,
talked and laughed;
if your heart still aches in the night
go out and look at the moon,
recollect every moment we shared,
buy the wine we drank,
drink some of it again;
eat what we ate
gain back your strength;
go back there and live freely,
this is our country
this where we lived from birth
this is where we have to die,
I have died today
so will you die,
when it is your time;
life is your friend and in your hands
walk with it and as you walk
gather love, give some of it away
it will return back to you
in double measure;
ours is a place of love
ours is a hub of peace
a few unfeeling minds
cant carry away our peace;
walk boldly as you walk
think calmly as you think
at every dawn you will rise
to do what I did not do,
you will speak words that will echo,
see dreams that will materialize,
plan actions that enhance freedom
and be brave to distinguish an enemy
so that our country is safeguarded
and our innocent children
don't die the death I died
due to a terrorist
whom I had never hurt or harmed!
