Self-appointed frost monitor
casts an eye over browning grass
no breeze, yet cold air
cools ears as we pass.
In elongated shafts
of early sun's rays
gypos' distant calls
announce the day.
halleria flowers cleave
to each slender stem
in orderly rows whilst
primulas grace brown spaces
fill them with vibrant shades
white with all rosy colours in between.
