On my back
Looking to the sky
Stone by stone
The years are laid
Upon my chest
The weight becoming
More and more
Unbearable.
I can see now
The last rock
In a pile nearby
Will crush the final breath
Out of my lungs
Push me deep back
Into the Earth
From whence I came
Where I belong…
The rain to carry me
From each new blade of grass
Bit by bit
Memory by memory
Through the field
Down the valley
And into the sea…
Alight on a wave
The wind and star
To tell the tale.
