Wind And Star Poem by Laurence Overmire

Wind And Star

On my back
Looking to the sky
Stone by stone
The years are laid
Upon my chest
The weight becoming
More and more
Unbearable.

I can see now
The last rock
In a pile nearby
Will crush the final breath
Out of my lungs
Push me deep back
Into the Earth
From whence I came
Where I belong…

The rain to carry me
From each new blade of grass
Bit by bit
Memory by memory
Through the field
Down the valley
And into the sea…

Alight on a wave
The wind and star
To tell the tale.
