Who Are We? Poem by Vinita Nahata

Who Are We?

"Hey dude, would you mind if I dressed like you? "

"For, I believe, it's good enough for me, What's good for you! "

"I am in such fine fettle;

I think your attire would suit me better., "

"Okay dude, as you wish, I don't bother; "

"After all you and me are alike my brother, "

Seeing Allah dressed like him;

Lord Ram exclaimed, " cool bro, Allah, you look better than me! ",

Listen folks! !

The Gods live in perfect euphony;

None of them vying for hegemony,

Trying out many an option;

Seeing what is cool in fashion,

Brotherhood & fun with passion;

All with but one notion......

Any race, religion or gender;

Peace, love & brotherhood,

They have donned the mantle of "divine friendship",

While we, their fanboys, mere mortals, mankind;

Massacre in their hallowed names and are unkind,

Seems as Gods hijacked by goons;

These goons expecting to be blessed with boon,

We desire Gods to be here and there;

All at the same time; everywhere but near,

We always see thebenevolent facets of Gods;

It's what we crave for,

We bribe in small coins or grams of gold;

Moving heaven and earth;

Until it comes to us,

Such low andfallacious entities we have made our Gods!

We never do evil so aptly as when we do in the names of Gods! !

By the dictates of our assumptions;

We are not gratified with just being humans,

We are Hindus; we are Muslims,

We are Christians; we are Buddhists,

We are of high caste; we are of low caste,

We are black; we are white,

We look at what blood to shed,

We look at what blood to hate,

We look at what blood to torture,

We look at what blood to rape!

Who are we? ....

Beneath the religious skin, flesh, and muscles,

We are all a mere obscene skeletons,

Despite being the root of all evil through our actions,

In the end are put to rest and turned to ashes,

Gods feel the wound;

Why put blame on them?

For the choice given to us;

To pick the life we desire to live! !
