1 Cor 1: 25
When Hitler ruled Berlin
the bees went out and in.
When it looked like hatred won
the birds built nests and spiders spun.
To build, to birth, to dream
at times may seem like ignorance.
But try to smother or stamp out
what's deep in nature's foolishness.
I had to think about the meaning of this poem, which is indirect. It seems that creatures knew how dangerous Hitler was. I also like 'God's Grandeur' very much.
G.M. Hopkins was an innovative poet indeed. 'Pied beauty' is also very good. I have translated ee cummings, so I know his sonnets and other poems. Cummings is even more innovative than Hopkins; he is unique in joining words, no capitals, no punctuation-brilliant I think.
michael, hopkins' " God's grandeur" along with " pied beauty" are two of my favorite poems ever. do you know e.e. cummings' sonnet that begins, i thank you, God, for most this amazing day...? or emily dickinson's " i taste a liquor never brewed" ? this poem is both a comment on the current political scene in america which has many despairing and also the product of something i read in an excellent book, " bee time." -glen
A poem that encourages to read the past history, rule of Hiler has been condemned by all, I also condemn Hitler. But I cannot ignore Joseph Stalin's comment that WWII was fought for deciding as to who would destroy the world.
stalin was another one! history is usually written about the few rich and famous, but nature—above, beneath, around us—goes on—even despite our efforts to destroy it (see my poem losing battles) . thank you, akhtar, for reading and commenting on this poem. -glen
Hitler's rule over Berlin was one of the most cruel period in human history. When man was engaged in violence, nature was going its usual way, so oblivious to the men's hatred to fellow human beings' Nature is the best teacher.
hi, bharati! this just came up in my email. greetings and best wishes to you across the globe to india! yes, nature—prodigiously fertile, constantly working, powerful—has so much to teach and inspire as you well know. thank you, as always, for reading my poems and for taking the time to comment. appreciate you! -glen

I would like to translate this poem
Truth goes marching on, arm and arm with time and Wisdom... mankind's fleeting glory is surpassed, by and by...
Hey, Smoky! A notice brought me to this poem, and I see I never responded to this comment of yours. Amen! to your words, and thank you. I'm reminded of the song you likely know, 'He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.' -Glen
