What Was Your Stepping Stone? Poem by Terence George Craddock

What Was Your Stepping Stone?

there once was a stepping stone
into a profusion of possibilities...
glittering gems like a forest of diamonds
in a supermoon moonlight twinkling...

like stars spanning an entire universe
of waiting wonder the road not taken...
was wood smoke drifting on the wind
dissipating into a chill cold winter's night...

there was a stepping stone into faith
there was a stepping stone into adventure
there was a stepping stone into life
there was a stepping stone into love...

a stepping stone into romantic dream bliss
written to warm your heart soul with love
to outlast even the longest hardest lifetime...

but there was also a stepping stone into drunkenness...

there was also a stepping stone into laziness,
into deceit, into drug addiction, into crime,
into gambling, into violence, into death murder...

each had riches rewards perils woven into a unique...

tapestry of elusive life
which stepping stone
did you eventually choose?

Did you choose...

wisely? did you return
to a true path a better path?
if when you choose a loose

faulty stepping stone...

along the way if you could
choose again would you choose...

the stepping stone into a romantic
dream bliss written knowing now...

how profoundly all that glitters is not gold..
