What The Heart Wants Poem by Phil Soar

What The Heart Wants

With a pacemaker fitted
I should be well kitted
But my heart beats a random fast beat
Sometimes it decides
It will slowly subside
And I feel I will fall off my feet

Since I left hospital
Life has never been dull
And some days seem to test my resolve
At times when I sweat
I get ever so wet
And my heart feels about to revolve

I get used to the beat
When I run down the street
And my heart tells me that It can't cope
Take a break, take a breath
And escape a quick death
You'll be likely to be called a dope

When the heart wants to say
"Take it easy today
As I need to take time to recover"
I should swallow my pride
And just sit down inside
And just write some more rhymes for my lover
