What I Can't Afford Poem by Jon Yttri

What I Can't Afford

Rating: 5.0

I asked a friend of mine named Jack
Why do you drive a Cadillac?
"I drive a Cadillac because I'm poor
And can't afford the luxury of wanting any more."
Why do you wear clothes of the finest cut?
I asked Jack, who said, "I'll tell you what.
I dress this way because I have so little
And can't afford to dress in clothes
That are second fiddle.
Why do you have a mansion by Mendota Lake?
It must cost a fortune, less I do mistake.
I am poor, that is true
I must settle for a water view.
I just can't meet the expense
Of looking out the window
And seeing just a fence.
