We Are Mere Shadows In The Void Poem by chize ryan ogunkah

We Are Mere Shadows In The Void

chasing the wind for a fleeting delight
and making a trade-off at the corridors of destiny
we are mere shadows in the void

usurping the applauds of another
to end up in the bowel of shoal
we are mere shadows in the void

ataba and mezue stripping their dignity
for dozing on the thighs of Delilah (femme fatale)
we are mere shadows in the void

toiling endlessly for a seat at the table
only to end in the boudoir (company) of fools
we are mere shadows in the void

exploiting Chuka's naivety
to enrich Lugard's greedy gut
we are mere shadows in the void

dancing to the drumbeat of infatuation
only to tarry in grip of misery (dolour)
we are mere shadows in the void

until we realise that fate is an unruly servant
that can never be tamed but adapted to
our idea of being in the saddle
is only a construct that finds relevance in the human mind
