Tonight As I Ambled Poem by Raymond Farrell

Tonight As I Ambled

Tonight
As I ambled
Nonchalantly
Down Gu Lou street
Moving in sink
With the crowd
As it pitched
And rolled
Like a wave
I saw a woman
Squatting on the curb
Selling berries
I bought a bag full
Delicious and sweet
I put handfuls
In my mouth
Throwing away
The empty bag
Two blocks later
Consequently
I have nothing
To offer you
Except this poem
I have written
Using fingers
Whose tips
Are stained purple.
