This is a poem for all the mediocre poets like myself
We thoughts our words would mean something
We thought our deepest feelings would touch other souls
We hoped our most wonderful imaginings
Would be dreamnt in the hearts of others
We thought we would be recognized
And counted among the real poets
And others would celebrate what we have done
And yet when we tried and tried again
Little came
Here and there a kindly word gave us hope
Some even thought by trading praises
With other mediocre poets
Something might be achieved
While inwardly through a thousand rejections
And failures at recognition
We came to know
That we are not
And will never be
What we still secretly hope to be.
Let us partake of the wonderful treasury of poems by classical, modern, contemporary poets along with those who are basically writers nurturing no special ambitions. I also endorse the views expressed by Robert Murray Smith. Thanks a lot.
We thought we would be recognized And counted among the real poets trading praises.... With other mediocre poets..... //.... I am sure we are sailing in the same boat and enjoying our journey in co-existence. The perception that all are involved in a horse-race or are vying for the top slot is not correct.
Poetry is not all about ego. It is sufficient to express your thoughts in a poem. Billions have not got that ability. Count yourself lucky. Maybe, if you were collegiate you would enjoy yourself and others.
Well, it looks like you've graduated! Because This is a great poem And you have become what you secretly hoped to be - A fine poet
