The Veterans Lament. Poem by Mike Berriman

The Veterans Lament.

Rating: 3.5

We fight with our guns, planes and with tanks
When it's over, sometimes we get thanks
Soldiers are paid, but there is a cost
Of bodies ruined and innocence lost.

Now we have children and medical care
And how do we fix that thousand yard stare
We were promised the world as we formed up in ranks
The world has forgotten we few with no thanks.

Now Pollies retire with a healthy account
When Vets retire they are quick to recount
We were promised the best and made to make do
The world has forgotten our efforts, have you?
