The ties of affection
that binds a man
to his mother,
father, brother,
son, daughter
wife, body,
wealth, home
friends and family
are strong threads
which chain them.
Break those fetters
to become one with
the Lord of love.
28 Then Peter spoke up, "We have left everything to follow you! "
29 "Truly I tell you, " Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life".

this for many is one of those " hard sayings" of jesus. but i think his message is about attachment and also says something about a different kind of family, a spiritual one. i relate this to appetite. we need to eat to live, but we should avoid attachment to it as those who live to eat. sexual attraction and marital relations are natural, but we recognize that there's much more to intimacy than the physical act, yes? -glen
