The Spider. (Written To Alleviate My Granddaughters Fears) Poem by Bryan Sefton

The Spider. (Written To Alleviate My Granddaughters Fears)

The spider on the ceiling sits
Views my Granddaughters hysterical fits
With a seeming bemused dismay
As terrified she runs away
Then concentrates upon the thread
That cuts the corner above the bed
While listening with a confused air
To the screams that echo from the stair
Thinking 'I'm sure there's reason were I
A suspended hippopotami
Or a hanging elephant
Waiting with the firm intent
Of dropping on her should ever she
Stand in the spot that's under me
Or if tiger like or python wise
I could rip and tear and pulverize
But I dangle! That is all I do!
I'm sorry if that frightens you
