The Rare Vessels Poem by Damilare Odeyemi

The Rare Vessels

THE RARE VESSELS

Yes,we all ask to be interceded for
We all long to have a blissful ending
Aspiring to be all we can be
To be a replica of the supreme one
Rubbing our palm for the above blessings
But our ties need to be severed
Not only from the trending norms
But from all darkness forms

The gathering of brethren
More in the dead of the night
With the unity of our faith
With fervency in pouring out desires
With our commitments in the dawn
Even as the cold breeze blows
With the shades of our hardwork
Even as sweat drench us under the sun
We discharge our responsibilities

No one dares to compete
Not only with our sonorous voices
But also with our innate aptitudes
No one dares go with our pace
We're fast becoming buoyant
Even the devil's chest can now be tapped

With a glimpse of the dynamism of the Word
We're now evaluators
No one does it like we do
Correction from us knows no bound
Showing off, even before our ancestors
Our mind drifts away
Faster than the spin of fan blades

That gentle voice is now considered
As inconsequential as the left hand
Yet we are being reprimanded
But every stern warning
Found their position on our deaf ears
Now we're below the ladder
And in no time,
We became the butt of all jokes

Where did we go wrong?
What did we do to deserve the pain
Every tenet we adhered to
Every word we took note of
Only pride clouded our minds
Only rebellion obscured our visions
But now we understand
Pride and godliness are not on the same page
Even in the dictionary
Yes, we know hymns
But we're yet to know Him
