The Leaf..... Part 1 Poem by Shaun Cronick

The Leaf..... Part 1

Rating: 5.0

Do you believe in magic?
Real magic not trickery.
Things left forever unexplained,
Just life's simple mystery...

The Leaf.

Cold autumn's winds start to gather pace,
A grandmother and grandson warmly embrace.
Her sadden grandson has just turned seven,
And his loving mother now rests in heaven.

Two years exactly since she passed away,
Wishing she would return for just one day.
Crying his eyes out each and every night,
No father figure to soothe his longing plight.

His name is Paul and lives with his gran,
Soon to reveal a secret to her little man.
The secret of very old and mighty tall tree,
And what it can bestow to set his heart free...

Rose Marie many thanks for your kind and gracious comments and I have three endings to choose from to tie this up. And that choice is tricky, so wish me luck! Thanks again Rose Marie and remain poetry blessed.

Dominic many thanks and truth be told I have three endings to play with and to choose one to balance the long mid section is tricky. For I'm still undecided. And Walter de la Mare's ghost stories like his poems are great and standalone reads. Thanks again and take care.

A very engaging poem. Shaun's pen has always that mystery and magic that could draw his readers to his well crafted poems. This poem will definitely grip its readers towards its end.
