The Gardens Of The Nile Poem by Laurence Overmire

The Gardens Of The Nile

Take my hand, my love
And I will show you the stars
A canopied night
And a pale desert moon
In the gardens of the Nile
Come and lay by my side
And listen to the music of the quiet water's fall
The sweet scent of roses
Still crisp in the air

‘Neath those lush hanging bowers
Our hearts will unfold
You and I alone
Where no one can see

Fall asleep in my arms, my love
Let the world slip away…

The pyramids whisper
The sphinx gently sighs
All the secrets of Egypt
Alight on the wind
Like the wings of the Phoenix
Rising out of the dark
Our dreams live forever
Eternal as the sands
An unbounded love

Undaunted by time.
