The Garbage Man At Prayer Poem by zaheer uddin

The Garbage Man At Prayer

A man in rags
with his garbage bag
prays on a side walk
under a tree- -

His bag contains
a mix of things
to trade it for his midnight meal

He stands in prayer
without a care
upon an open box
oblivious of the rush of life
across the other side- -

The moonlight filters through the leaves
and rests upon the face so pure
The lonely form
engrossed in prayer
under the open sky- - -

He stands and bends
and then prostrates
before the lord divine
until he sits with folded knees
with hands raised up in prayer

The garbage bag, the rags and grime
are lost some where in time -

A lonely form
engrossed in prayer
under the open sky- - -
