The Footpath Poem by Julian Mann

The Footpath

Dreaming westward where fields roll
I may catch up with Edward's soul
By a half gap in a hedge where a stile
Did once lend a hand to poets while
The footpath glistened
With their tears behind

"It was only time" said Edward looking at the leaves
As if something more had been lost when they fell from the trees
Through the autumn air bedewed with poets' words
About true love being a blessing and a curse
Onto the footpath
Which glistened in the evening light
