The Fat Man Says Poem by Perry Shepard

The Fat Man Says

The fat man on the corner
Says to his friend
Historically there is a higher plane.
His friend didn't know what that meant
But nodded his head urging
The fat man on-
Who extolled in detail
What the higher plane should
Look like to him.
He by passed the Bible,
He ignored the Torah,
And the Koran was tossed out.
He knew the way to get there
And his friend decided to have a drink
He wasn't interested in moving
To the fat man's higher plane of existence.
He told the fat man
I found God in this bottle.
He lets me fly away.
I don't have to notice
How holy my clothes are
I know they are sacred
And allow me to go anywhere.
See how the pretty girls walk on by,
The police may look at me
Yet they leave me alone
So I can pray in peace.
The fat man looked at him sadly
And gave up trying to help
His friend reach any higher plane.
Both looked up at the sky, sighed
And walked away in the rain
Each solid in the quest
They were on.
