The Cruelty (The Truth Revealed) Poem by Mervyn Graham

The Cruelty (The Truth Revealed)

In the hush of history, a tale untold,
Upon the sands where mysteries unfold,
Ian, with his solemn gaze, did find
A secret buried in the sands of time.

'Twas the afternoon of '71, a day
When destiny unveiled its silent play.
Amidst the whispers of the rolling sea,
A child's innocence lost, yet to be free.

In twenty-twenty-one, our journey began,
To seek the truth, to understand the plan.
Named 'The Cruelty, ' a quest for light,
To bring to justice what had slipped from sight.

Bob Beveridge, with his tales of old,
A detective's secrets, waiting to unfold.
In Fife's embrace, he sought the truth to find,
In whispers carried by the gentle wind.

The Traveller's plight, a story of woe,
Their children lost where the wild winds blow.
'The Cruelty' they named it, with hearts so sore,
For children torn from the life once known before.

Davie Donaldson, from the Traveller's kin,
His voice to echo where the stories spin.
Through misty memories of days gone by,
He sought the truth beneath the open sky.

With names uncovered and tales unfurled,
The past revealed in the modern world.
Through archives deep and family ties,
The truth emerged 'neath auld Alba's skies.

Martha, a link to a past unknown,
A bridge between what was and what is shown.
In whispers shared and stories told,
The mysteries of the past unfold.

On Tayport's shore, where the river wends,
A child's grave, where silence ends.
Under rainy skies, where tears do fall,
The unknown bairn found peace after all.

In the embrace of those who cared,
Short life remembered, a soul repaired.
With gratitude and love, they all stand,
A testament to the bond of hand in hand.

So let the rain wash away the pain,
And let the river sing its sad refrain.
For on this day, in memory's flight,
The unknown bairn found his eternal light.
