Spring And Summer And Autumn In Canada Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

Spring And Summer And Autumn In Canada

Spring and Summer and Autumn in Canada
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
It is the sad truth about life and death
That no man or woman is going to live no more
Than he or she should
And this is my winter of longing for a beautiful life
With the happiness of love and money and work
For this is all a cross-linked matrix;

I have tulip bulbs which I planted in our garden last fall
And I am hoping that Monet's garden mix as they are called
Come to life in a profusion of colours of purple, blue and white
Which are Claude Monet's Waterlilies in a flowery patch;

Spring is the eternal truth
That there is always hope
Which transforms longing into
A fulfillment of the yearning;

Summer in Toronto is simply gorgeous
Despite the "tropical heat"
And it brings the sunshine of love and life
To a contemplation of how sublime life is;

If spring and summer in the city,
Spring and summer in the city
Bring forth sunny skies and beautiful flowers
And green plants and smiling faces,
There is autumn which makes green trees colourful
With orange, red and yellow blooms as leaves;

Autumn in Toronto brings beatitude
For it is harvest time
And it is in the nature of things
To feel a sense of bliss at the thought of
Reaping the harvest of one's labour;

If there is prose in the loveliness
Of passion in work and celebration
Which makes our humdrum everyday existence
Pulsate with excitement,
There is poetry in the four seasons
That come every year
And if some of it is lament
For winters can be a little long and drawn out
Like an unpleasant conversation not to one's liking
But still pleasurable for near and dear ones bring joy many a time,
It is this poetry that brings the lyrical truth
That there is music in the hearts of all of us.
