Sonnet: The Pearl Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: The Pearl

Oh, how I wished I loved an orphan- girl!
A girl who knew not what was meant by love;
One who would be my life’s most precious pearl!
And glitter forth her joy all life to prove.

I dived in life’s sea searching for that pearl;
I plunged so many times in vain for her;
I took a stone in despair then to hurl;
And wow! It was the love I sought so dear!

The girl I sought was washed ashore by waves;
In frustration, she’d attempted to die!
And end her life or marry one who saves;
The nuptial knots forever then to tie.

Some things in life on your actions depend;
If foolish, they could otherwise then end.
