Songs Of Prometheus Poem by Clive Culverhouse

Songs Of Prometheus

Rating: 4.7

there will be a baby crying
in the next room, but not yet
people are still standing around
my bed and I'm still on my last breaths
they won't leave until I have gone
a brown leaf about to fall

I remember the white foam of waves
not rampaging bulls in Spanish streets
but subtle colourings of children's books
gently paging in rippling tides by bare feet
sand on toes in fizziness
those waves, they kept on repeating

some are probably praying
others counting along with the clock
they stand around my bed
some I want to leave, others I want to stay with
I've done the fighting, I've done the pleading
cue the baby in the next room

Here's a comment from Write Out Loud poetry site about my poem Songs Of Prometheus " This poem has a quality all of its own as you use the language in an almost exquisite way. " Sand on toes in fizziness" , " they wont leave until I have gone a brown leaf about to fall" . A superb piece of writing."

Beautiful elegy...i think this is what they call this poem. Ummm....i am guessing the baby crying is the wife of significant other. Right? Rather than babies babies.

interpretation can be intriguing, I wrote it with a meaning in mind that felt right to me a reader's interpretation is solely for the reader that's poetry thanks for commenting, .

some I want to leave, others I want to stay with I've done the fighting, I've done the pleading/// the bare feet and toes touched the sand to the desired victory where fighting of life has no end, where some have gone and some to stay in the pleading of the desired goal; beautifully executed the poem by the entitling Songs of Prometheus; congrats for being selected this poem as POD.......5******

I have set this picture in my mind. The mourning. Expressed well. We have to live whilst we are able.

The titan who mastered fire now lies on his deathbed. How poignant that his memory lingers not on life's sound and fury but on delicate, subtle things! After summing things up, his thoughts reach out to a child soon to be born. Is he entrusting his fate to a Pythagorean rebirth, or simply finding solace in life's continuity.5 stars for intriguing reflections.

'they won't leave until I have gone a brown leaf about to fall' - feelings so profound, expressed in these two lines!
