Soliloquy Of A Bunyan Tree Poem by Valsa George

Soliloquy Of A Bunyan Tree

Rating: 5.0

I am a Bunyan tree, full of magic and grace
Nestling in the slopping ridge of a valley
From a tiny seed dropped by a bird, I grew
Into immeasurable size with a verdant crown

Now a vast territory is under my domain
I stretch and swing my arms all around
Support my body on a hundred legs
That no storm or gale can uproot me

My leafy arms are curved to the ground
Forming a maze of arches and tangly knots
With an enigmatic darkness hovering
Where birds roost and squirrels run about

When I bear fruits, the feathered folks come in flocks
Green parrots, bulbuls, mynas and crows
Squabbling with each other for my scarlet gems
Leaving me noisy with their mad crescendo

I proudly host these denizens of land and air
Never resisting their obtrusive invasion
I offer them shade and shelter, making them joyful
As they hop about and romance among my branches

Some of my kin have heart shaped leaves
With tapering tips, delicately hung from drooping boughs
Which readily flutter in every passing breeze
Making a soft hum, echoing in the stillness

I never set any boundaries as I find joy
In exploring and conquering
And into newer and newer realms, I move
With none hindering my encroachment

No axe falls on me and I continue to grow n' grow
As I enjoy the status of being the national tree
Seeing the sprawling wilderness of me,
My singular identity is often mistaken as a clump of trees!

An amazing personification of a tree, a tree that reminds us of Almighty God, who provides shelter and His provisions are open to all His creatures. On the other hand it symbolizes a human saint who serves all the creatures irrespective of their color, cast, creed or religion. Recently such a man Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in Pakistan. Through out his life he served humanity and donated his entire body. After his death his eyes were found useful and a blind person can now see the world through his eyes.

Perhaps a humble tree, yet you capture the noble and regal parts of the personality so well. The Bunyan discovers life through this verse. A great poem, Valsa.

How i missed this beautiful poem on the banyan tree, Glad i found it now. Both the poem and the picture is beautiful. So is the poetess who has written it. One of my favourite trees, Valsa. Is it spelt as 'Bunyan'?

A wonderful tree and a magnificent poem to match it. It seems incredible that it is one tree and it plays host to so many creatures. I love poems about trees. One of my favourites is by Paul Valery, the French poet, to a Plane Tree (au platane) . We have several trees in our garden. I love the different shades of green and the shadows they create. Great poem

Oh, that tree beckons me to climb among its branches and probe its mysterious leafy center. You write with love and cheer about the tree and its friends, the squirrels and the birds. This is such a happy poem penned from a happy heart and read by your readers with a happy soul!
