Soliloquy After Watching Too Much Shakespeare Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Soliloquy After Watching Too Much Shakespeare

Rating: 5.0

So this is it?
This is what lays before me?
For all my remaining days
In this heartless hearth
In these hollow halls?
Am I left to wander, dreamlike,
From room to room,
Once filled with the light of laughter,
Fellowed with the warmth of mirth,
Now icelike in their silence,
Maudlin in their mood.
Then leave me be
Here in my memories
Of happier days
Of sound and fury
Signifying everything domestic
Everything meaningful
Everything of life
Now fled
Forever.

The title of this one, Suzanne, got my attention. I began by wondering which Shakespeare. Like you, I prefer not to linger in the dreary halls of my mind. On W.S., I think of Macbeth’s speech that begins, Tomorrow, and tomorrow... Also gloomy, but one of the best expressions of nihilism I’ve read. -Glen

This was probably me imagining myself as Lady Macbeth before her suicide. I love Shakespeare, and I usually try to see things from the female characters' eyes.

Hi Suzanne, Very poignant thoughts translated into poetry. The melancholy mood of loneliness is brought out in very very touching words: So this is it? This is what lays before me? For all my remaining days In this heartless hearth In these hollow halls? The phrases ' All the remaining days, , heartless Hearth and Hollow Halls bring oyt the extreme anguish within you... Great feeling.. I have gone through this phase, So I know.. thank you for sharing this GEM! ! ! ! ! a lovely 100++
