Shades Of Red Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Shades Of Red

Rating: 4.5

I took a piece of my heart & planted it in a pot.
It didn't take long before it flourished into thick red stems
Covered in red foliage.
The problem began when she appeared, seamlessly out of
Nowhere.
Although harmless, she flew everywhere.
I moved my heart to the windowsill to keep it safe,
I searched online, I looked everywhere in attempt to rid
Myself of my problem of her.
Her affection disguised in nuisance.
She'd fly close to my nose, my glasses,
She'd even buzz by my ears when I'd try to ignore her
There isn't a spray strong enough to keep her away.
The windowsill did wonders for my plant,
The place she made her home.
Squatters rights I suppose,
She'd buzz around the pot, playing around the leaves
& stem.
Her favorite being the thick wide leaves it produced.
Nothing I did seemed to keep her away.
No matter how much I swatted.
She never left, the thing I hated the most
Is when she'd fly in my nose

Ok, I read again and gave 4 stars. Does that make 7? I question whether 'seamlessly' should be another word: 'seemingly'. bri ;) Welcome, 'new poet'.

This summer in SC I've had tiny flies fly up my nose (if I don't cover the nostrils) as I walk down the hill to our mailbox. It's weird. 3 stars at least.

The topics line has a of a lot of 'love' in it! 'Abstract' sounds about right. It IS a strange poem in some way(s) , but I liked it. bri : )

Under the poet's photo, the state name has an extra 't' at tt's ending which is not correct. Ha ha.
