POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

written 25 December 2014Recife, Pernambuco, BrasilThis city has many stray dogs roaming free leaving their little gifts behind.Update: 05 January 2015The picture shows a woman sleeping in a narrow hallway using one dog as a pillow, with three other dogs in the picture.

Thank you. I saw many scenes similar to this one while I was in Brazil. Some people have no place to live or sleep except on the streets. Luckily, in Recife, where this photo was taken, the temperature rarely varies from 83 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit all year long. If it gets below 72 they all wear coats and gloves (if they have them) .
