Rebellious Nights. Poem by Safiyyah Manjra

Rebellious Nights.

"Your facial expression changes when you lie,
You are so transparent I can't tell why"

How is that me?
You are seeing that which I cannot see?

Sometimes you make me laugh,
Me saying that isn't creating some draft.

I don't lie I don't intend to either.
Maybe I shouldn't make sentences when I don't have all the facts together.

Questions they arise and conversations they go on.
But I am sure I always say I DON'T KNOW before saying something wrong.

Why is it you say that I lie?
Maybe getting to see through me would be a good try.
Instead of trying to see why.

You know how terrible I am with words.
Saying stuff for the pleasures.
I'm certainly not like the other hers.

So if I said something that night down at the beach while we were both at the barbeque.
Know it wasn't to irritate you.

I left the library at 9 PM,
Headed to the beach without any thought or stem.
No rooted intention was there then.

But these are the spontaneous events of the youth.
So don't call the intentions or words I spoke that night uncouth.
