Poetry For The Common Man Poem by Joseph Anderson

Poetry For The Common Man

Rating: 4.8

O muse of mine please work with me,
Teach me to write simplisticly
And I shall seek no grander plan;
Just poetry for the common man.

My idols, Dylan, Haggard, Frost
Wrote of things gained, things loved and lost;
Just simple words, but plain and clear,
Those simple words we all hold dear.

I need much help with rhyme and flow
And show me where the commas go;
Give me a deeper depth of thought,
'Tis not for fame nor glories sought.

I wish to write plain, down to earth,
Where all life's joys are given birth
And not concealed in mystery
Yet, glowing with much imagery.

This is my goal, please work with me.
Your help may set my writing free.
I'll never need a better plan
Then writing for the common man.

In tribute to Merle Haggard, America's
poet of the common man

So good, so true Joseph; I'm a big fan of The Hag, have been for at least 35 years! Simply a wonderful poetic tribute to such a great poet, from such a great poet. Your words move me.

Keeping yourself at a peak of your own is an endearing trait in you Mr Anderson. Your poetry is bereft of any tools abused otherwise. Keep writing sir and if possible share your reminiscences of the disillusioned world between 1939 and 1945 as well. Thanks a lot...
