Out Of Stars Poem by Richard Provencher

Out Of Stars

The sky is almost out
of stars to wish upon as I climbed
through life then shuffled
into the twilight of my years.
Breath and length of days
began counting as numbered steps -

in the battleground of youth
I was a player
who acknowledged the differences
between love
and losing a prize.

Lessons learned through foes
I once fought
knowing destination
was inching around the corner -

now I climb
and climb some more
with only a few stars left to go.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In my older years I appreciate the love of a wife for almost 40 years. Esther has been by my side through good times and difficult times, especially as I fought near depression from a serious stroke to the ups of recovery, through prayer and loving. Each challenge has been a learning journey and as I gather in the twilight of my years, now almost 72, I can appreciate much more in the learning of life's flavour. For these reasons, I wrote this poem, in Truro, Nova Scotia.
