On Throwing A Shoe Or Two Poem by Sandra Martyres

On Throwing A Shoe Or Two

Rating: 5.0

The Simple art of throwing a shoe
Has really caught the imagination
Of quite a few
History says that the Russians were
The first to uncover its alternate uses
When their President made a shoe point
At the UN, to express his displeasure
More recently, the US President got a scare
But managed to duck in time to avoid the pair
Of shoes aimed at him in quick succession
At one of his Iraqi press sessions
Our local journalists not to be outdone
Have also joined in shoe shooting but not for fun
The Home Minister being the latest target
Of an unhappy pressman’s shoe attack
But he rather quickly and graciously
Accepted the Newspaper’s apology
And forgave the impulsive journalist
For this act of indiscretion
Soon thereafter, a leading daily
Carried an article on the art of aiming shoes
It strongly advised practice sessions
Stating that the purpose is not to let the shoe
Make contact with the targeted politico
Rather the intention is only a moral point to score
The right approach is therefore to leave a margin
Of at least twenty inches and aim for the wall
As politicians are not known to remain
Riveted to a single spot they keep moving about
And the last thing a shoe thrower would want
Is for his sole to actually wound the targeted soul
But the older and the smellier the shoe
The greater the impact in terms of a moral blow
The gender of the shoe does not matter
Looked at from an economic and utility point of view
One could always choose a lady’s shoe
As she generally has a surplus pair or two
And the heels will act as a great deterrent
Especially when the target is grossly errant! !

(Inspired by an article that was published in the Times of India recently)

Sandra, this is a beautiful portrayal of contemporary political scene. I wish this poem is published in The Hindu or some other daily news paper and everyone read this. I like this kind of poetry on latest issues. Very well done. Kudos to you

George Bush managed to escape as he knew beforehand that the pieces of papers he used everytime to address his own presidentship as a global leader is not written in his own verses.May be some intelligent Jew has written all his scripts, those luckily missed out of Adolf Hitler's target in Germany and now they insure everything..they insure Rahul Dravid in India, tie up with TATA, add money to all those hackneyed Khan's accounts in the name of aerated Colas and for women they come up with lipliners to become trainee whores of Babylon. For India, at least people from cabinet and state has a minimum qualification which is going to be how many people you have killed or how many cases are there above your head- a statistics for judging one's suitability. The shoe of grievance therefore targeted and achieved the head or face of vexation and no- confidence.Hats off to him who fulfilled an unfilled Iraqi dream.I think the minister forgave coz' he feels himself forsaken and reeling under circumstances. So if the smelly shoe smells a cow dung or any other animal left overs it is just worshipping religion and humanity in india in its true colour. I fancy many my own shoe or two after long daysing and now the final judgement or decision from my to be in-laws, the woman i love who is also a ph member. Here i will celebrate love with the shoes containing the may-be blessings of sands not targeted perhaps for me.Sometimes a shoe or two are eye-openers.Or it is just what i would like it to be love containers. The title of the poem is hereby unique representation of whole as an individual.

Sandra, not only is this amusing in the way that you have written it, but the idea of tossing a smelly old shoe a gormless Politician really appears to my sense of fun. I think I would find a person with a bad case of smelly feet first and use his. Loved this my friend. You get top marks plus from me. Hugs David

A trend of time very well depicted Very action has equal and opposite reaction. May be that's right from the perspective of one who threw Whether you call it instant or well planned. A culture, a trend gets set with just a emotional call The reasons no one cares but issue is the headlight Whatever may be the reason, a healthy trend Is all everyone is expected to practice. At times things to be forgiven Better say how to ignore. Thank you for this write.
