Of Traffic Jam And Toast Poem by Laurence Overmire

Of Traffic Jam And Toast

Rating: 5.0

Trying to get somewhere
A place I want to be
On a road I suppose will take me there

But

Stuck on the pavement
A slow roll of tires and fumes
Bumper to bumper
Trying to see why
The Fates have blocked my going

But

There is only an endless chain
Of car to car, twisting up and down
The impertinent Valley
As far as eye can see
Angry faces glare in the heat
Pounding ineffectual fists
Raging horns that bleat like sheep
Before a shearing.
