New Style Poem by Naomi Waters

New Style

Queen Lydia was silent
Her eyes grazed the burning fields bellow her
This hell she called her kingdom
Filled with the screams of sinners
The royal immortal regarded her fate with a sense of finality
She had been trapped here within this realm for centuries
Reigning as a queen was wont to do
But so very unhappy
Lydia had not seen the sun or sky in such a long time
Not since she had been a princess
Young and naive beneath her mothers feet but with time....
She grew to want more
The power Lydia had was not enough to satisfy her ravenous nature
So she hatched a plan
One that in the end became a failure
Her mother felt no love for her daughter upon discovery of the plan
The princesses mother banished her child from her home for eternity
Never to return
Forever entrapped in a living inferno called the Underworld
Even banishment did not quiet Lydia's thirst for more
She turned to the dark within her own magic
The princess turned queen named herself ruler of the dead
Queen lydia now controls the very souls of those passed
Forgotten by all except her mother Lydia waits in the shadows
Prepared for the day when she will finally reclaim her throne
