Minus Hodie Lux Poem by Brian D Griffin

Minus Hodie Lux

We are underneath that pall with you today
Like the great grey scarf the sky pulls round its neck
We earthen vessels gather in this place
And look now upon the broken jar that days ago was you.

Our fears and prayers like smoke from the thurible rise
We plead to Him and to each other words for you
Lighting candles; mostly from our darkness
We do not know the light that now you do

In hushed supplications as people steeped in fear
We dare not wake the darkness lest it come for us
We pray to Him and question every line
Do You hear me; for I do not know if I hear You.

At final hymn, we turn to leave this place
But not before entreating Heaven open doors to you
We sing more for ourselves than for your soul
For we still run before what, we do not know

We put your broken jar into the earth
A pall of clay and sod enfolds you now
We place our tearswhere last we laid you
And wait… who is next… when is our hour?
