Maidens Of The Grave Poem by zaheer uddin

Maidens Of The Grave

muffled cries for help that reached
the men who gathered at the site
a campus full of lively girls
lay trapped beneath a heap of stones.

men who tried in vain to reach
the buried maidens in distress
could do no more than rant and rave
and wait for men with tools and skills
to rescue girls so bright and young
who seemed so brave and strong- -

These girls to keep their hopes alive
were heard reciting words of faith
some verse from the holy book
were quoted in the grave- -

Alas! the wait was over
help was here at last
a chopper dropped a few supplies
and men with skills and tools

one by one these men of skill
discovered girls with bodies limp- - -

To the girls of Muzzafarabad university who died in the tragic earth quake of 2004
