Lucre Poem by Benjamin Debrah

Lucre

I'm a nice guy
You don't need to ask why:
When I speak lives begin to shine
When I'm around people feel fine
In my presence there is no short of wine
At my order all begin to dine
I hate to see throats dry
I strife to bring comfort nigh
My nature is to take people high
My goal is to make the limit sky

I'm a nice guy
Perhaps you need to know why:
Honor is mine
Good life is my sign
In the dark cloud I'm the silver line
My stitch in time saves ninety-nine
All I do is to be kind
What is hidden I seek to find
What is torn apart I like to bind
What serves not my purpose, I leave behind

I'm a nice guy
And you must know why:
Those who use me well, I do not deny
Those who seek me genuinely, I do reply
Those who use me for charity are my pride
Those who save me will be by my side
My faithful do not have to call
Those who respect me do not fall
Hospitals, schools, roads and the mall
By my hands I make them all

Sometimes I forget I'm a nice guy
And I don't even know why:
Many a time I make people cry
In my name people die
I force people to lie
Habitually, I make pockets dry
I embarrass people when I'm out of sight
Because of me men go on strict diet
My entry makes friendship divide
Under my influence families fight
